Steel Town Strings is an all-girl cello quartet featuring teenage cellists Helayna, Sophie, Maddie, and Maya. Steel Town performers share a love of both classical and alternative styles of music. Steel Town Strings have performed in the lobby of Carnegie Music Hall, were selected to perform at the Andy Warhol Museum for the 2018 "Youth Invasion: Stay Woke", perform at local churches and schools, and enjoy busking throughout the Pittsburgh area. When they are not performing with Steel Town Strings, the quartet stays active in local youth orchestras and sports teams. The group coached by Nicole Myers from Cello Fury.
The Sharps and Flats have been together for three years. Coached by Marina Nielsen, the group consists of musicians in grades 6 to 11 who love to play their cellos. Each year, they perform concerts to help raise money for different causes, including programs for refugee children in the South Hills. They have performed at Heinz Hall in the lobby before Pittsburgh Symphony concerts, at retirement homes and in churches.
